Last night, I went to a board-game party. This morning, I attended a board-game brunch. This rash of board-game-playing could relate to rainy weather, but I suspect that when D.C. gets its allotted 48 hours of spring, my friends will just move the Scrabble game to Dupont Circle.
I'll be there under duress, as I hate Scrabble. True story: The other day at my friend's house, I scrutinized the word she had just spelled. "What's a Doog?" I asked. That's "Dog," Sadie. I also suck at Boggle. In Boggle, you try to find words in a random letter grid. All last night, other people discovered words like "Yurt" and "Vittles," while my answers drew from a "See Spot Run" vocabulary.
I do like a few board games: Taboo, for instance, because people who are not good at thinking of words on demand actually have an advantage here. In everyday life, I often find myself saying, "Pass the, um, the condiment that's bad for your cholesterol?" A perfect Taboo clue!

Cue Stone's Throw:
I'm Japanese! I'll do anything!
You two had an unfair advantage against the rest of us linear-thinking Taboo players. Although I am pretty nasty at Taboo nonetheless.
By the way, I take issue with your declaiming of DC spring. DC has spring. You can remove your winter coat by March. I am still wearing mine. Just come here for another rainy blustery April weekend if you want to know what not-spring is. (actually, just come here anyway. I miss you.)
smooooooooooooooch!
Hey Red Panda! What you don't know is that I studied every word in Boggle just like you have studied every word in Taboo to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent(s).
Oh sweet mercy, Voluble Brat... you have quite a memory....
I remember playing Taboo with you, Red Panda, where everything had to relate back to George Bush. I can't believe he's still prez.
I think the key to Boggle is that it's snaky-- not boxy.
Do you all remember: "Stevie S? Stevie Who?" :)
Stones and Brats should visit me in DC. It just now warmed up; today I got a sunburn.
Have you played Apples to Apples?? It is the new BEST BOARD GAME EVER. I laughed so hard I snorted my drink up my nose. (and I agree boggle sucks -- who wants to find the word yurt anyway??)
